Job Description

An officer at this level will be responsible to the Director Internal Audit.

  1. Duties and responsibilities

Specific duties and responsibilities at this level will include but not limited to: 

  1. Assisting in preparing annual work plans to ensure that audits are well planned and executed;
  2. Leading risk assessment and developing management guidelines;
  • Developing a comprehensive programme of engagement for assigned areas;
  1. Ensuring conformity to acceptable standards, plans, budgets and schedules;
  2. Ensuring that the audit findings are properly documented;
  3. Leading specific audit teams;
  • Following up on implementation of recommendations of internal and external audit;
  • Performing audit tests on the internal controls in accounting, administration and operational procedures;
  1. Preparing draft audit reports detailing audit findings;
  2. Preparing periodic audit reports;
  3. Ensuring accountability and ensuring compliance with principles and values of good governance transparency, accountability, ethics and integrity;
  • Supervising, appraising and developing audit staff to ensure maintenance of high audit standards within the audit function.
  1. b) Requirements for appointment

For appointment to this position, a candidate must have:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance or its equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
  2. Master’s degree in Accounting or Finance or its equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
  • Part III of the Certified Public Accountants (CPA) Examination or its equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
  1. A minimum period of ten (10) years relevant work experience and at least three (3) years in a management role in the Public Service or Private Sector.
  2. Management course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution.
  3. Membership of the Institute of Certified Public Accountant of Kenya (ICPAK) or Institute of Internal Auditors of Kenya (IIA-Kenya) and/or Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE-Kenya) or any other relevant professional body.
  • Proficiency in computer applications.
  • Good Communication skills.
  1. Shown Merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.
  2. Fulfilled the requirements of Chapter Six of the constitution.
